Read jargon-free articles and guidance pieces written in-house by our solicitors and keep up to date with what's happening at Neves.

Neves Solicitors has expanded two of their specialist teams with the appointment of Simon Porter and Tina Shah.

Do you receive rental income on a jointly owned property?

If so, it is worth considering the income tax implications of this if you have not done so already.

We routinely prepare Declarations of Trust for joint owners of property who are in receipt of a rental income, but who split this income in different proportions between themselves.

I have had several cases during my time as a Divorce Solicitor where I have had to advise clients in relation to joint accounts. Usually, I find there are two scenarios:

  1. Where one party has removed funds from the joint account without the other person’s knowledge or consent or they have in fact drained the account entirely and run up a debt.
  2. Where one party wants advice on how much they should remove from the joint account

Marriages break down for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes, this is due to infidelity. You may find yourself in a position where your spouse is cohabiting with someone else, or you have met someone new and want to cohabit. If you are in this position, you need to consider how cohabiting can impact your financial settlement on divorce.

Neves Solicitors are expanding the specialist Private Client team with the appointment of Associate, Josie Birnie, who will be based at the Harpenden office.

Josie qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and specialises in Private Client matters. Since qualifying, she has acquired a wealth of experience in areas such as Wills, Estate Planning, Probate and Estate Administration, Powers of Attorney and Trusts.
