Will Writing Solicitors

Some 70% of people die without a will. The rules of intestacy which apply can lead to unexpected results and unnecessary distress for the family. As well as ensuring that your estate passes to those to whom you intend, we can help to save thousands of pounds with some simple ideas which can be included in a will.

Do I need to make a will?

Making a will can be an uncomfortable and complicated process, which can be off putting.  But with more complex family structures, and more people choosing to live together rather than marry, making sure that your assets go to the people you want, doesn’t always happen if you haven’t made a will. For instance, if you are a cohabiting couple, and one of you dies without a will, your partner does not necessarily inherit your assets.

Our Will writing solicitors will talk you through what you need to do, explaining the process and help you to make a will that covers all your needs.

Here are 10 reasons to make a will

    1. To make life easier for your loved ones
    2. To enable you to choose who will inherit your assets and on what terms
    3. To appoint guardians for your children and make financial provision for their upkeep and education
    4. To ensure that your partner doesn’t suffer any unnecessary financial hardship
    5. To arrange a fair split of assets between your family and your spouse’s family if you both die at the same time
    6. To make provision for your children from a previous relationship at the same time as providing for your new spouse or partner
    7. To protect your assets if your chosen beneficiaries are vulnerable, or could face bankruptcy or divorce, or may need to pay for long term care
    8. To ensure that you don’t have to pay any more Inheritance Tax than you have to
    9. To put steps in place for your business to run smoothly after you have died
    10. To express your wishes in respect to funeral arrangements

Already have a Will in place?

We recommend that everyone should review their Will whenever there is a major change in life such as buying or selling a home, getting married, starting a family or getting divorced.

So, if you have experienced a change in circumstances contact our Wills Team to arrange a review of your existing will.

National Will Register

We are members of the National Will Register. The National Will Register is currently recognised among solicitors as the primary place to search when a will cannot be found for someone who has died.

When we write your Will, it is usual practice for your completed Will to be stored safely with us. However, registering your Will on the National Will Register means that should a circumstance arise whereby your executors or beneficiaries did not know where to find your Will when it was needed, or were unaware or had forgotten that you had written a Will, there is now a safeguard in place.

5/5 Star review
Trevor Kidd of Neves acted for us recently on several house purchase transactions, the final one of which came to fruition. We were very impressed with their thoroughness and calm professionalism thoughout. Trevor and his colleagues were a pleasure to work with and it was very re-assuring to have them with us on what was a a long and at times demanding journey. He was always in full command of the details and his contract and search reports were clear and very informative. He was always contactable and responsive and we would have no hesitation in highly recommending them to others.

We were recommended Neves through a friend and very happy going with them. Trevor Kidd was very good and always reachable for various queries we had. Also want to mention the wider team (including Kay Koch) who also made the house buying process much less stressful. Highly recommend them and thank you again to Trevor, Kay and others for a fantastic service.
