Career History
I have a broad range of corporate and commercial experience gained over a 30+ year career, both in the UK and internationally. I trained and practised at leading City firm Slaughter and May and have worked at other City and regional firms. I also worked in-house at Hilton International and offshore in the Cayman Islands for a number of years.
Simon is listed in the Legal 500 2024 edition.

Experience
I have acted for SME business owners across a range of industry sectors (hotels and leisure, aviation services and healthcare are highlights) on a variety of corporate and commercial matters. These include buying and selling companies and businesses, investment and fundraising rounds, corporate restructuring, advising on share incentive schemes such as EMI and unapproved options, commercial contract drafting and advice and work-out solutions.
What makes me human
I enjoy exploring the great British countryside in search of enjoyable food and ale at quaint and hospitable pubs. I've also inherited an interest in heritage railways from my now grown up son and also plan to travel to faraway places that I have not already visited.
It has always been common to lend small amounts of money to friends and family members on an informal basis. Few people bother with a written legal agreement, and even fewer ask for interest to be paid on the loan. However, with increasing numbers of people taking larger loans from friends and family members, it is important to be aware of the potential pitfalls.
From initial engagement through to deal completion, Simon Porter guided us through the process of selling our business. He, together with Jessica Williams, covered off all details and handled the mountains of paperwork involved. Throughout, Simon ensured that the best interests of our shareholders were represented, resulting in completion of the deal to the satisfaction of both sellers and buyers.
