Legal Resources and News

Read jargon-free articles and guidance pieces written in-house by our solicitors and keep up to date with what's happening at Neves.

We occasionally need to advise clients in relation to their joint accounts. Usually, we find there are two scenarios:

  1. One party has removed funds from the joint account without the other person’s knowledge or consent or they have drained the account entirely and run up a debt.
  2. One party wants advice on how much they should remove from the joint account

Marriages break down for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes, this is due to infidelity. You may find yourself in a position where your spouse is cohabiting with someone else, or you have met someone new and want to cohabit. If you are in this position, you need to consider how cohabiting can impact your financial settlement on divorce.

Neves Solicitors are expanding the specialist Private Client team with the appointment of Associate, Josie Birnie, who will be based at the Harpenden office.

Josie qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and specialises in Private Client matters. Since qualifying, she has acquired a wealth of experience in areas such as Wills, Estate Planning, Probate and Estate Administration, Powers of Attorney and Trusts.

In previous years, many scams have involved debit and credit cards being used to commit fraud but scammers are increasingly focusing their activity on authorised push payment fraud, also known as payment diversion fraud.

Criminals are actively targeting property purchases, with the aim of tricking you into transferring them your house deposit and/or the balance of purchase monies to them.

It’s that time of year again. Separated parents everywhere will no doubt be starting to make arrangements for how they are going to spend Christmas and, more importantly, what is going to happen with their children over the Christmas season. Even the best co-parenting relationships can break down and this is particularly the case during the Christmas season, where each parent wants to spend time surrounded by family and friends, including their children.
